Dear friends,
As summer settles in, we are also entering that long, quiet stretch of Ordinary Time, the part of the liturgical year where nothing flashy seems to happen, but transformation is still unfolding.
This season invites us to reflect on one ongoing question:
What is Jesus asking me to do?
It’s something we are all called to consider in prayer, especially when faced with a tough decision or discerning an important step. There may be times where we feel God leading us down a path that doesn’t seem to make sense.
In these moments, we can imagine how the servants felt during the wedding at Cana.
The servants didn’t understand why Jesus asked them to fill six jars with water. Despite any doubt or frustration they may have had, they obeyed Him. And that quiet obedience became the first miracle.
Today, in this season of Ordinary Time, God is still turning ordinary water into good wine.
Here are 3 small daily actions to repeat throughout the season to experience God’s miraculous goodness:
-
Specifically name the “water” you’re offering // Every morning, ask yourself what small act of obedience God is asking of you today in your current schedule, situations, or state of mind.
-
Repeat Mary’s words (“Do whatever He tells you.” - John 2:5) // This can be a prayer (and a reminder) that you say in the silence of your heart, or something you write and place in a central spot of your home or office.
-
Find one moment of stillness // Commit yourself to at least one moment of quiet (even for a couple minutes), and invite Jesus into it, no matter how mundane or simple it seems.
A prayer to pray today:
Jesus, help me follow You, even when I don’t understand the whole picture. Teach me to trust that You can bear good fruit from every small “yes” I offer You. I want to do whatever You ask with love, with faith, and with joy.
