Our trust and hope are rooted in the Lord.
Each year we select a new theme for the Every Sacred Sunday Mass Journal. Guided by prayer and discernment, we allow the Holy Spirit to reveal to us a line of Scripture or a traditional prayer of the Church that inspires our creative decisions in production. The Mass Journal illustrations and cover art are custom-created and painted by Every Sacred Sunday's co-founder, Christie Enriquez. The theme also cultivates unity within our ESS family, focusing our prayers throughout the liturgical year. We cannot wait to share more about it with you
This year the Lord invites us to reflect on where we place our trust, and how deeply we are rooted in Him.
Blessed are those who trust in the LORD;
the LORD will be their trust.
They are like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream:
It does not fear heat when it comes, its leaves stay green;
In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still produces fruit.
- Jeremiah 17:7-8
A tree does not plant itself randomly; it is set with intention beside the waters. Trust in God is a rooted, chosen dwelling, not a passing feeling. The deepest work is unseen: roots stretching toward the stream. In the same way, prayer, the sacraments, and trust in God nourish a life that bears visible fruit. Storms may bend branches, but deep roots keep the tree from falling. Likewise, trust in God gives stability in a world of uncertainty. God Himself is the stream that sustains these deep roots, our constant supply of nourishment.
We hope that the beautiful artwork in the journal inspires you to examine your own root system. This year, as we reflect on trusting in God, may we come to know Him more deeply, love Him more fully, and discover anew the freedom He has always intended for us. Stay tuned for more information about our foreword writer. We cannot wait to introduce him to you.
