Happy February, friends!
February is a month that’s brimming with love—God’s love for us, our love for Him, and the love we share with each other. It’s also filled with beautiful feast days of Saints who exemplified this love in their own unique ways. Let’s take a moment to reflect on three of our favorites (with feast days in February!) and how we can honor them this month:
1. February 3 // St. Blaise
a. St. Blaise was a 4th-century Bishop and martyr known for his miracles of healing, especially curing people of throat ailments. He is the patron saint of those with illnesses of the throat.
b. An idea to honor him: Get a blessing for your throat this month (often done on his feast day at Mass) or pray for someone you know who is struggling with health issues. Consider offering a small sacrifice or act of kindness in solidarity with those who are sick or suffering.
2. February 14 // St. Valentine
a. St. Valentine is often remembered as the patron saint of lovers, but his story is so much richer. He was a priest in Rome who was martyred for performing secret marriages for soldiers who were forbidden to marry. His acts of courage in the face of persecution have made him a symbol of love and commitment.
b. An idea to honor him: Send a prayer or small note of encouragement to a friend, spouse, or loved one—remind them of God’s love for them and offer a prayer for their well-being. You can also make a special effort to attend Mass or spend some time in prayer, reflecting on God’s sacrificial love for us.
3. February 22 // The Chair of St. Peter
a. This feast celebrates the authority of St. Peter as the first Pope and his role in safeguarding the teachings of Christ. The “Chair” symbolizes the teaching authority of the Church, which continues today in the Pope.
b. An idea to honor him: Take a moment to pray for Pope Francis and all those in Church leadership. If you’re able, learn more about the papacy or St. Peter’s life and reflect on the gift of the Church’s guidance in your own faith journey. You might also consider writing a letter or offering a prayer for the needs of the Church.
All you holy men and women, pray for us!
As we reflect on these Saints this month, let’s be inspired by their love, courage, and devotion. May their examples help us grow in holiness and deepen our love for God and one another.
