Happy March, friends! And welcome to Lent, starting on Ash Wednesday!
March brings with it the anticipation of spring, the deepening journey of Lent, and a chance to reflect on the many saints who have gone before us, offering examples of faith, sacrifice, and love. As we continue living liturgically, let’s take a moment to honor three remarkable saints whose feast days fall in March, and discover how we can draw inspiration from their lives:
1. March 7 // St. Perpetua and St. Felicity
a. St. Perpetua and St. Felicity were two early Christian martyrs who lived in the 3rd century. Perpetua, a noblewoman, and Felicity, a slave, were both arrested for their faith in Jesus and sentenced to death. Despite the trials they faced, they remained steadfast in their love for Christ and their faith. Together, they were martyred in the arena, and their story has inspired countless Christians throughout the ages.
b. An idea to honor them: On their feast day, gather with your community—whether that’s your family, friends, or parish—and spend time in prayer together. You could share the story of St. Perpetua and St. Felicity to inspire one another with their unwavering faith.
2. March 17 // St. Patrick
a. St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is widely known for bringing Christianity to the Irish people. He used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity, and his missionary work transformed the spiritual landscape of the country.
b. An idea to honor him: On his feast day, consider learning more about the legacy of St. Patrick and his missionary efforts. You might also dedicate time to praying for those who are working to spread the Gospel.
3. March 19 // St. Joseph
a. St. Joseph, the husband of the Virgin Mary and the earthly father of Jesus, is a model of humility, patience, and fatherly devotion. He is the patron saint of workers, fathers, and the universal Church.
b. An idea to honor him: Take a moment to reflect on the quiet strength and obedience that St. Joseph displayed throughout his life. Consider praying the Litany of St. Joseph or offering a special prayer for fathers and workers, especially those facing difficult circumstances.
All you holy men and women, pray for us!
May the examples of these holy men and women help us grow in holiness and deepen our love for God and one another.
