Happy November, and happy All Saints’ Day!
November begins with this beautiful feast day (a holy day of obligation, too!) that invites us to reflect on the great men and women that walked in faith before us. They pave the way for holiness, reminding us that we are called to sainthood in our own unique way.
All month long, we’ll be celebrating feast days of Saints that can teach us a lot on this road of following the Lord. Here’s a few of our favorites:
1. November 3 // St. Martin de Porres
a. St. Martin de Porres was alive from 1579-1639. He is known for his great humility, ministering to African slaves and serving the poor as a Dominican.
b. An idea to honor him: Make a donation or give of your time to serve the poor this month.
2. November 15 // St. Albert the Great
a. St. Albert the Great was a Bishop and Doctor of the Church. He is known for his theology and knowledge (St. Thomas Aquinas studied under him!).
b. An idea to honor him: Learn something new this month! Pick up a spiritual book you’ve been wanting to read or explore a new topic you’ve been curious about.
3. November 22 // St. Cecilia
a. Not much is known of St. Cecilia’s life, but she was named the patron of music in the sixteenth century. She is honored by the Church as a martyr.
b. An idea to honor her: Sing loud at Mass! Follow along with the hymnal or cantor and meditate on the words that you’re singing.
All you holy men and women, pray for us!
