3 Reasons to Go Deeper with the Mass Readings

How do you feel when you come to Sunday Mass? Rushed? Excited? Peaceful? Anxious?

Let's be honest—building a life of consistent prayer is so hard, even with your ESS Mass journal close-by. We're here to help!

This week, join us in simply reading the Sunday readings ahead of Mass. This could be a weekday evening, Saturday morning, or 10-15 minutes before Mass begins. There is no correct answer to when you should read the weekly Mass readings and write down your thoughts. Just try making the time and see what God does!

Here are 3 fruits of reading ahead of Mass:

  1. We remember // When we read readings multiple times, God’s Word sticks in our memory. Next time you need some encouragement, you’ll know where to go in Scripture.

  2. We listen // By reading ahead, we create more time for God to speak to us through Scripture. We can then listen slowly and closely, instead of rushing through prayer.

  3. We rest // Sundays are chaotic enough. Instead of frantically trying to settle into Mass, you can just sit down and continue the conversation that you already started with God earlier.

Remember—the point isn't to burden yourself with a chore or to make yourself feel guilty but to develop a mindset of intentionality and a deeper desire to spend time with God.

It's a true joy to build these beautiful habits together.
